I don't really listen to country music....

Last November, I mentioned not wanting to sound like a country music song. I guess we all have those times. I’ve thought about what to say many times over. I’ve tried editing myself to keep it short. If you get bored or too depressed, just skip to the end. I’ll do a quick summary.

The last five or six years have been hard. I mentioned that my mom passed away last year. Her health had been decent, but mentally, she’d been slowly slipping away. What I didn’t mention was that I moved in with my mom because of a pending divorce. I moved back to our small town and I felt like I was in one of those Hallmark movies. (Unfortunately, I’ve got no old flame to find and fall in love with again.) That wasn’t easy, but if I hadn’t been living with my mom with my daughter, Medicaid would have taken my mom’s home when she passed. It made me feel like there’s a reason for everything and I was able to be there for my mom when she needed someone.

And here’s where it becomes a country song. Shortly after my mom passed, my dog began drinking a lot of water. I’d give her a bowl and she would empty it a couple of times and even lick the bottom like she’d just walked through the desert. I took her to the vet. The vet sat with me and told me that my dog’s liver was failing. She would have to be on medication for the rest of her life. I think I was in denial before the conversation was over. I had to choose to let her go last October. She was eight.

Before I got my dog, I saw the movie A Dog’s Purpose. (It’s currently on Netflix, but I will never watch it again.) A corgi falls in love with this beautiful Landseer Newfoundland. It’s mentioned later that the Newfie went to the vet and never came home. Man, that made me cry. My dog was a Landseer Newfoundland.

Of all the hits in recent years, the loss of my dog is the one that I struggle with the most. With my mom, I wasn’t the only mourner. But this dog was mine alone. I took her to vet and grooming appointments. I took her for all her walks. I alone did all her training. She was my peace amongst the storms. There were many times when I felt like she was the only one who listened to me. It wasn’t until she was gone that I realized that she was my ride or die.

Okay, so I could talk about my dog all day. She was beautiful. Strangers would pull over in their cars to ask about her. I never knew how many people were afraid of dogs until I got her. I was told she looked like a bear, but honestly, she’d roll on her belly in seconds. She loved people. She was so smart and could learn any task with the offer of a treat. At times, she gave me a look of open adoration that I think we all need in this life.

All this, and I still feel fortunate most days. I find joy in appreciating what I do have. I have a large supportive family. I’ve got a very smart and beautiful daughter. I have the fifteen-year-old cat that hated my dog. We still have my mom’s house.

TLDR: I got divorced. My mom passed. My dog passed. I’m still here, maybe a little dented, but with a greater knowledge of my own personal strength.

A Quick Thank You

I just wanted to drop in quickly to say thank you to everyone who purchased Her Lone Wolf (or borrowed it on KU). I debated about adding a second epilogue, but I couldn’t think of anything that would add to the story. I didn’t want to add words and pages without them contributing something worthwhile.

I am thinking of further Stone Pack and Bioexpa sequels, but next I’d like to write a stand-alone story. It’s been a long time since I did one of those. I have a few of those that I started forever ago but never finished. I’ll probably have to go through and update their tech!

The Promised Second Excerpt

A small whimper reached his ears. Matt froze for a split second before bolting upright. “Sage.” He tossed back his bedcovers. Only once he stood outside Sage’s closed bedroom door did he hesitate. She made another sound, this one more destressed than the last. His gut twisting at her turmoil, he knocked on the door. “Sage?” Opening the door a crack, he peeped inside her dimly lit bedroom. A bedside clock provided minimal illumination.

Even a year later, he was still surprised by his improved night vision. He made out Sage’s curvy form beneath the covers with ease. Mumbling in her sleep, her arms and legs jerked.

Matt crossed to her and sat at her side. Hoping not to startle her, he gave her arm a gentle nudge. “Sage.”

She inhaled deeply. A frown wrinkled her brow before her eyes opened. “Matt?” She blinked. “Why are you here?”

“You sounded like you were having a nightmare. Are you okay?”

She sat up. “Yeah.” She ran the back of her hand over her forehead. “I don’t remember the accident, but my mind was recreating it. I was trapped in the car, and I couldn’t get out. There was a fire, and I know that didn’t happen, but—” Her breathing accelerated, and she sounded more upset by the moment.

“Shh.” He pulled her into his arms. “You’re okay. You’re safe.” He stroked her spine and kissed her forehead. “I’ve got you.”

She melted against him with a sigh. Her hand closed around his bicep. They stayed that way for several minutes. Finally, she muttered, “You’re not wearing a shirt.”

He laughed. “Nope.” Even before he became a werewolf, he ran hot at night and slept in minimal clothing. If he weren’t in Sage’s home, he’d sleep naked. Hearing Sage’s soft cries had spurred him into action, and he hadn’t paused to put on pants.

“Matt, you better not be naked.”

Chuckling, he said, “I have on briefs.”

She hummed. “You’ll stay with me?” she asked. Yawning, she buried her face in the crook of his neck.

Matt gritted his teeth. The feel of her soft lips grazing his skin sent a shiver down his spine. Had his neck always been so sensitive? He swallowed a growl and attempted to answer Sage. His vocal cords locked as a sharp wave of lust twisted his gut. Banishing fantasies of her kissing him, biting him there in that spot on his neck, he cleared his throat and managed a strangled, “Yeah.”

An Excerpt

Her Lone Wolf comes out tomorrow! I'm so excited. I'm sharing an excerpt. If you read Her Perfect Mate, you'll have read this before since I included an excerpt at the end of the book. If so, think of this as a refresher. I'll post another excerpt  by Friday. Enjoy!

The first time he met Sage Hall was under rather embarrassing circumstances during their junior year of college. They’d been neighbors for half a semester, but they hadn’t been officially introduced. It’d been close to three in the morning, and he’d been working on a research paper with an imminently looming due date when the ruckus began.

He ignored the loud talking. The residents of their apartment building comprised largely of college students. Hearing rowdy, drunken revelers on the weekend was di rigueur. He expected the voices to move on shortly. Instead, they lingered and grew in volume.

When the off-key singing followed by banging on his door started, Matthew Donovan rose with a resigned sigh. His roommates Randy and Tyler were out carousing. More than likely, these women were here looking for them.

Hell, he’d wanted to go with Randy and Tyler, but his mom worked too hard to pay even a portion of his tuition. She couldn’t afford for him to fuck around and linger at the university for a fifth year. And that’s exactly what would happen if he didn’t concentrate on his studies.

Sure, he’d gone a little wild his first semester. Fortunately, he managed to scrape by with only a couple of C’s and a D as a result. The ultimate punishment had been the tired and disappointed look on his mother’s face when she’d seen his grades.

Fuck, that’d almost broken his heart. He’d seen that same expression on her face far too often because of whatever fuck up his drunken cheat of a father had committed. He never wanted to see that defeated look directed his way again. Or to be the one to cause it. The next semester, he’d returned to school determined to do better. And he had. But between work and his heavy course load, the deadline for this paper had snuck up on him.

Matt glanced through the peephole to see two scantily clad girls giggling and leaning on each other for support. Shaking his head, he opened the door. Swiveling to stare up at him, they both seemed in danger of losing their battle with gravity. His hands shot out to grip the arm of each girl as they swayed toward him.

“Matt!” They chorused loudly. He winced.

How did they know his name? He didn’t recognize either of them. Not as women he’d dated. Randy and Tyler often brought dates home, but these girls didn’t even appear vaguely familiar. Maybe he’d missed a few? It was difficult to keep up. Their bedrooms had revolving doors.

“Hello, ladies. I’m sorry but Randy and Tyler—”

One of the girls scowled and broke his hold on her arm. “Who are Randy and Tyler? Don’t care about them. We came to see it.” She grinned as she leaned well into his personal space. The stench of alcohol assaulted his nostrils.

“Hey, Bren, we agreed. My turn first!”

Bren pouted. “I’m oldest. I should be first.”

Matt rifled his fingers through his hair, yanking the blonde curls at his crown as their argument devolved into a cat fight on his doorstep.

The door of the apartment across the hall swung open with such speed that it spoke volumes about the irritation of the dwelling’s occupants. It was, after all, now three in the morning and this kerfuffle continued to escalate.

Three justifiably angry women in pajamas glared at him. The shortest of the three had a bat slung over her shoulder. One thwacked her hand with a rolling pin in a regular rhythm. And the tallest of the three….

The breath froze in Matt’s lungs. Though tall for a woman, the top of her head only reached his chin. Her ebony hair was parted down the middle and pulled into buns on either side of her head. She had flawless chocolate skin, full lips, and curves that had him tugging his t-shirt down over his burgeoning erection.

As he watched, her sensual lips thinned with disapproval. The bat wielder released a huff. “Slut, are you going to break up your girlfriends or what? Some of us are trying to sleep.”

With all his blood heading south, it took him a moment to realize that he was the “slut” to which she referred. Matt blinked. “I don’t know these women.”

His neighbor with the rolling pin let out a torrent of rapid-fire Spanish too advanced for his three years of studying the language in high school and college. Setting aside her makeshift weapon, she insinuated her way between the bickering girls—not an easy task as Bren had a fistful of her friend’s brown hair. Once they were separated, his tall goddess swiftly restrained Bren and he moved forward to intercept the other pugilist.

Big mistake. She immediately forgot about fighting. She twisted in his arms and draped herself all over him. Matt gagged at her fermented odor. Grinning up at him, she slurred, “My name’s Deb.” She frowned before her cheeks puffed out and she emitted a gurgling sound.

“Oh, shit.” He struggled to get her off him before she could blow.

Fortunately, Deb got herself under control. Within seconds, she leered up at him as if nothing had occurred. “Can I see it?”

     “See what?”

She wiggled her hips against him, and he hurriedly shifted back before she made contact with his erection.

“You know. It. The monster. The legend. Matt, Jr.”

His mouth dropped open as the women behind her snickered. “What the hell?”

Bat girl’s eyes widened. “Matt Donovan? You’re that Matt?” She turned to her roommates. “Ladies, we’re living across from a celebrity.”

     “Again, what the hell?”

His goddess sighed. “Let’s get these girls a ride home and then we can explain his celebrity status to Matt.”

Wednesday, February 11, 2026

I went to Barnes & Noble today and removed all my self-published books. I dislike removing options, but I don’t see the point in publishing with them anymore. It’s simply not worth the time and effort to even publish books there. All of last year, I literally made less than $50. My last book did not sell at all.

And I can understand why. I went to their site and did a search and could not find my books. Books in the same series were not grouped together. A toddler could do a better job of organization. Thus far, finding other publishing options has not gone well. I did put a couple of books on Google Play to see how it would work. Result? I can’t see that it does work. In the meantime, I put the entire library (with the exception of those two books) on Kindle Unlimited.

I’m very close to finishing Her Lone Wolf (Matt’s story, Book 3 of the Stone Pack). At the moment, I’m debating a final chapter or just going straight into an epilogue. I always think of details I want to add once the book is finished. And especially after a book is published.

Also, I’ve been looking at some of the AI covers. I know some people have a thing against them, but I really like some of the covers. I don’t want to read an AI written book. I think I’ve accidentally read a few lately and they seem…soulless.

As long as it takes me to publish, you know I’m actually writing my books. I am trying to improve my work ethic, but life seems to constantly throw me off course. I have seriously thought of using one of the covers to save time. But we'll see. AI and I haven't really done well together. I've actually gotten into a couple of near arguments with Copilot. In my defense, Copilot can be snippy!

I’d love to hear thoughts on any or all of this. Hopefully, the next time I write, it will be with a pub announcement.

A Very Short Update

I had really hoped to finish Matt’s book, book 3 in the Stone Pack series, and have it published by October. Those plans were derailed. I’ll discuss that at a later date lest I begin to sound too much like a cliched country song. Matt’s book is coming along slowly, but I’m still hoping to have it finished before the year is out.

Hope to be updating you with good news soon!

A Very Unspecific Update

I hope everyone has been enjoying summer. I haven’t accomplished as much as I would have liked to have done. I don’t know what fills the hours of the day when I’m not looking.

The other night as I was playing Sims 4 on my laptop, filling in a picture in Happy Color, reading a book on my Kindle, and watching television, I thought that perhaps I need to stop trying to do so many things at once. Screen savers are so frustrating!

I’ve been streaming entirely too much Come Dine with Me. So much so, that I tried to make my own ice cream without an ice cream maker. As with many recipes, a second try is going to be needed to perfect it. It’s slightly over churned and similar to whipped cream in texture. This explains why I don’t like some brands of ice cream with a similar texture.

Lest I have you believe that I’ve completely given up on working….

I’ve been working on the third book in the Stone Pack series. This is Matt’s book. As further motivation, I’ll try to start updating the word count at least once a week. I’m always so eager when I start a book. It’s the later parts that take forever.

For fans of the Bioexpa series, I do have plans to write more. I have ideas for at least two more books already and who knows what ideas will follow those.

I’m still working on other places to sell my books. Setting up new accounts as a self-published author is a pain. There’s also the matter of deciding which books to publish. It seems rather pointless to do the old ones again, but we’ll see how it goes.

And lastly, I got my dog a new bed. It’s very comfy. I know because it’s large enough for me to curl up on it with her. And my dog can often be seen lying on the floor in front of her bed while the cat lounges on it taking a nap or giving herself a bath.

What I am about to tell you sounds like a scam. Frankly, I wish that it was. I debated writing about this here at all because it’s not fiction. But I couldn’t stand the thought of another family going through this and if I can save one person this pain, then it would have been worth it.

When my mom passed away earlier this year at the age of 93, she had no debt. She lived in her own home, but she did receive assistance from Medicaid. She had home healthcare workers and she received free supplies such as adult diapers. A week ago, we received a letter from Medicaid asking for repayment of almost $400,000 from her estate. Well, if she had that kind of money, she wouldn’t have qualified for Medicaid. In lieu of payment, the government plans to place a lien on her home. The house isn’t worth even half that.

From research, I found that this is actually a method of recovery in many states. There were steps the family could have taken prior to her death to prevent this. If you or a loved one are on Medicaid, do your research and find out what you need to do to protect your assets.

Here's an article about this happening to another family: When the State Comes for Your Estate

Audiobooks

I’m happy that most of you seemed to enjoy Anaya & Niall. As always after a book release, I worry about, well, everything.

I just dropped by to post a quick bit of news. Amazon made it possible to sell the audio versions of e-books. I’ve made several of my books available. I only added the audio version for three books at first but added that option for several more today. They should be available within a few days.

If I skipped a book that you’d like to purchase in the audio for, please let me know. For older books, the price for the audio is higher than the e-book because that’s as low as they will allow. Inflation, I guess. Hope you’re enjoying your summer!

Release Day!

Anaya & Niall is out today! It's easy to find on Amazon, but even with a search I couldn't find it on Barnes & Nobles. Fortunately, they sent me a link. For convenience, I'll share them with you.

Amazon

Barnes & Noble

I wanted to include another excerpt, but I've been debating what portion all day. I still haven't made up my mind, but let's give this a go.

His communications slate pinged with an incoming message. His reaction was automatic—he pulled it out of his back pocket and checked the screen.

     Wes glared at him. “Don’t.”

It was too late. “I just need to respond to this message. It’ll only take me a second.”

“What is it this time? Did she misplace her comb?”

Niall shot him a nasty look. “She’s not a nitwit. She wouldn’t message me if it wasn’t important.”

A frown marred Tiffani’s brow. “Is there a problem?”

“No,” he said at the same instant Wes said, “Yes.”

“Can I talk to you in the kitchen for a sec?” Wes asked, with an urgent jerk of his head.

Scowling, Niall stood and followed his brother through the swinging doors to their kitchen. “What?” he snapped, anxious to get this conversation over with and read the message from his boss.

“Can we have one evening when you don’t dash off to brush your boss’s hair?”

“You’re exaggerating. And do you see me going anywhere? I’m simply checking a text.”

Wes crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back against the countertop. “First it starts with a text. Then there’s a phone call. And then another. And then you announce you have to leave.”

He couldn’t deny it. It’d happened before. More than once. “Anaya only contacts me when it’s important.”

“She can’t go a single evening without your help?”

“This is my job,” he pointed out.

“Your job got you dumped.” Wes threw his arms up in the air. “Or have you still not figured that out?”

“Anaya runs a multi-million-dollar company. She built it up from nothing—”

“And you want to fuck her. Jill knew it. We all know it.”

Time for an Excerpt

There are times when I begin a book with an idea and I write down a moment before I forget it. That moment can't be the beginning, but I just love it so much that I can't let it go. For Anaya & Niall this was that moment:

Niall stalked up to his wife and cupped her delicate face between his hands. “Let’s get something straight. Outside of our home—”

“My house,” she pointed out with raised eyebrows.

“Our home,” he said firmly. She’d never made him feel unwelcome or even as a guest in this house. She was simply being petulant. “Outside of our home, I’m your assistant and you can boss me around, send me to fetch your coffee or tea. But inside this house, we are equals. If I get you coffee or massage your shoulders, it’s because I choose to do so as your husband.” He ran his thumb over her juicy bottom lip. “And in our bedroom—”

“Now wait just a damn minute. Niall, I—”

“In our bedroom,” he raised his voice, drowning out her objection, “I’m in charge. You’ll do what I say.” He was pushing it, but they’d been heading in this direction from the beginning. Anaya never objected to his dominance in bed. He wasn’t the sort of dominant that required spanking or toys, but he did like to be the one in control. “If I want to fuck, we fuck. If I ask you to suck my cock, you swallow. If I want to lick your pussy, you’ll spread your legs with a smile.” He stepped closer until he could feel her breasts brush against his chest with each of her rapidly indrawn breaths. Her dark eyes blazed up at him, partly with fury, but passion lurked in the brown depths. His hands dropped from her face. He slapped her on her plump bottom. “Now take off your clothes and get in our bed. I’m in the mood to ride my wife’s pussy.” She jumped a little at the tap to her behind. Her mouth opened and closed but no words emerged. Finally, she nodded and scampered off toward their bedroom. A grin stretched Niall’s lips.

Anaya & Niall

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter. I had dinner with my sisters. I thought today would be as good a time as any to post the cover for Anaya & Niall. It will be available May 2, but you can pre-order it now.

Finished!

I finally, finally finished my next Bioexpa book. I’m not the fastest writer. I notice some other authors come out with a book a month (and sometimes more!). I don’t know how they do it. But for the first time, I didn’t have a book release last year and I feel like an explanation is needed. Especially since I announced that I was almost done last August. And I was.

I’ve been staying with my mother. She had dementia that progressed to the point that she could not be left home alone. Writing has taken a backseat the last couple of years. She passed away this February after a brief illness. She was blessed to live for ninety-three years, yet it still seems unbelievable that she’s gone.

The next Bioexpa book will be called Anaya & Niall. It still needs to be edited, but I’ll post excerpts and a publication date soon.

Almost Finished

I could have sworn that I’d posted earlier this year. Though I’ve tried to update word numbers regularly, I neglected to look at the front page. Imagine my surprise when I checked in today to see that I hadn’t posted since last year! I’d composed a message to post in February, but somehow never managed to actually post it.

So, here’s basically what I thought I’d said in February:

“I’ve been working slowly, but steadily on my next Bioexpa book. I’d hoped to have it finished last year. I’m happy to say that it’s not far from finished. I’ve been updating word numbers on the Works in Progress tab at least monthly. Which is more than I can say for the Books tab which I am again thinking of removing altogether.”

The editing book numbers was hit or miss. I am about fifteen hundred words or so from finishing that Bioexpa book. I’m close to the end. After the conclusion, I’ll probably wander around for a few days deciding on how to word the epilogue. Then I’ll get to my edits. I’m already looking at cover options.

For anyone reading this, I want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with me while I struggle with becoming more productive.

Apropos to Nothing but maybe warm fuzzies....

The other night I was watching television when I heard a thud outside. At first, I thought someone was playing their music too loudly as they passed our house. But I got up to peep out the window. In the darkness, I could see two cars parked just past our driveway and not far from our driveway, a crumpled figure in the road. I couldn’t tell if it was a dog, a fox, or a deer. It could even have been something that dropped off the back of a truck. I didn’t know.

Once those cars drove away, the headlights of the next passing car illuminated the deer in the road. It was still alive! We live on a road with no commercial businesses, but lots of homes and no small amount of traffic. While I wanted to run out there and assist the deer before it could get hit again, I didn’t want to get hit as happened recently to a motorist during broad daylight as he tried to assist a fellow driver. Also, while it wasn't a full grown male deer, I didn't know it's weight. And deer are wild animals.

Not knowing who to call, I did a search on my phone. I was seconds away from calling the police, when I looked out the door and saw that the deer was on its feet! One of my neighbors was attempting to turn into her driveway, but it was blocked by the deer. Another car came behind her and as so often happens this person was less patient and drove around her. The poor deer was literally frozen in headlights. But the second driver blew their horn and the deer scampered off. It ran up our driveway, across our front yard, and into the woods.

It was the most joyous moment I’ve experienced in far too long and I wanted to share it with all of you.

A Long Overdue Thank You

I want to thank everyone who took the time to write a review for Her Perfect Mate, but I especially want to thank those of you who mentioned that Missy does not have blue eyes. It’d really been worrying me, and I cannot express how much I appreciate you for your reviews.

I’ve been meaning to post this thank you for months, but I’ve been working on the next Bioexpa book in an attempt to be more productive this year. There just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day. Plus, I admit, I am easily distracted.

Work on the next Bioexpa book is going well. I’ve set a very attainable goal of 100 words a day. I miss it on busy days, but most days I surpass it. The hardest part is starting at all. Setting a small goal is my way to get going. It’s less intimidating than saying I’m going to write two thousand words today—which on a good day, I can totally achieve. But not achieving a larger goal day after day just wrecks me. It’s hard enough looking at the reminder I have up to wash my hairbrushes but somehow keep forgetting to do anyway. This is the most I’ve thought about it since I put that note up five days ago.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I would say that I’m going to go wash those hairbrushes, but I think all know that’s not going to happen tonight.

Reviews and Other Stuff

For the first couple of weeks after a book release, I read reviews to see what people liked and what they didn’t. It helps shape future books in a small way.

Currently, Her Perfect Mate only has two reviews. The 1-star review sent me for a tailspin of checking the book for errors. I can’t argue with opinion, but I can dispute facts. Missy’s eyes are brown. I’m not sure where the reviewer got the idea that they were blue. Both Missy and Rick have brown eyes. All my female main characters, with the exception of Veracity in Dark, have had brown eyes. That kept me up last night. Now that I’ve gotten that off my mind….

I’m working on the next Bioexpa book. Thus far, it’s slow going as I get caught in a loop of obsessively checking on a recent release.

I’m thinking of either deleting or simplifying the Books tab as I am doing a terrible job of keeping it updated. Every time I even think of updating it, I put it off for another day. Also, I don’t like the appearance of it. The page is glitched.

On a personal front, I’m trying to work out a time to take my Newfoundland for her summer haircut and bath. She’s beautiful as she is but she’ll be more comfortable with a little less fluff.

Until next time, everyone enjoy your summer!

Another Her Perfect Mate Excerpt

Her Perfect Mate is coming out this Friday and I'm so excited. Before it comes out, I thought I should post another excerpt to give everyone a small preview. Enjoy!

He stood and rounded the table so that he towered over her. Missy resisted the temptation to back away. This close, he was overwhelming. And despite this conversation, she hadn’t made any decisions yet. Rick was essentially proposing marriage. She’d met him only yesterday. The man was a stranger!

The craziness of it hit her at once and she stumbled back a couple of steps. It was pointless. Rick pursued her, keeping their proximity close.

He stroked her cheek with the backs of his fingers. “You’re so beautiful. More so than I could have ever imagined whenever I thought of taking a mate.”

“Thank you,” she replied automatically. She’d been complimented on her looks her entire life. She knew she was beautiful. Though she couldn’t quell the satisfaction of knowing that Rick appreciated her appearance, her beauty wasn’t an accomplishment that she’d earned. It simply was and therefore, she took no real pride in it.

“When I take you, I’ll roll you onto your belly and raise you onto your knees.” With a gentle touch to her shoulders, her turned her from him and wrapped his arms around her waist. Missy inhaled a shuddering breath as he trailed his lips up her neck. His voice was thick with arousal as he continued, “And when you’re screaming my name while your pussy sucks all the cum out of my dick, I’ll sink my teeth into the tender flesh of your neck, claiming you forever.” He traced two fingers over the area where his lips had been. “Right here,” he said, indicating the spot where her shoulder and neck met.

“Will it….” She stopped, clearing her throat. “Will” made it sound like a foregone conclusion that she accepted him as her mate. “Wouldn’t that hurt?”

“No. You’ll love it.” His arm tightened around her waist, and she could feel him, hard and thick against the curve of her bottom.
